UWP to be represented at the 2006 World Dairy Expo
PLATTEVILLE - University of Wisconsin-Platteville students and faculty will be traveling to Madison to participate in FFA contests and to staff UWP School of Agriculture and Pioneer Farm booths at the World Dairy Expo.
UWP faculty, Rick Bockhop, Mark Zidon, Chris Baxter and Michael Mee, along with UWP agricultural students will assist in running and judging a variety of contests at the event. Mee and his students will be participating in the Collegiate Dairy Judging Contest on Oct. 2. On Oct. 3, Bockhop, Zidon and Baxter, along with their students, will be working with the Dairy Products, Dairy Cattle and the Forages contests.
"This is an excellent opportunity for our students to help out with these events," states Zidon regarding UWP students assisting in the running of contests at the World Dairy Expo. "They may have been a contestant in these events as a high school student, but to actually help run the contest gives them an added dimension to more fully understand it."
In addition to participating in the contests, UWP will also have displays for the School of Agriculture and the Pioneer Farm at the Expo. "Our goal is public relations, outreach and recruitment by visiting alumni, parents and students," indicates Jodi McDermott from the School of Agriculture.
