Phi Kappa Phi inducts UW-Platteville students and faculty

PLATTEVILLE - The honor society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) initiated 75 students and three faculty members from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville at a banquet on April 12. Unlike many other honor societies, which are usually specific to a field of study, candidates for PKP come from all academic fields.

Selection of students is made on the basis of academic achievement supported by good character and is designed to promote academic excellence in higher education and recognize outstanding achievements. The UW-Platteville chapter also selects up to four outstanding faculty or staff members each year, chosen on the basis of academic record, professional achievements and service to higher education.

The faculty recipients this year are Kevin J. Bernhardt, associate professor of agriculture; Rosalyn Shields Broussard, associate professor of political science; and Tim Zauche, assistant professor of chemistry. This year's Phi Kappa Phi Excellence in Teaching Award recipient was Charles Sundin, professor of chemistry. The chapter also awards three scholarships annually, one to a top junior student in each college. This year's $500 Lucille and Bjarne Ullsvik Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship recipients are Kristel Ewald , College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture (BILSA), of Hortonville; Cynthia Freymiller, College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science (EMS), of Woodman; and Lanette Ehrhardt, College of Liberal Arts and Education (LAE), of Richland Center. Anyone interested in obtaining a list of student initiates may contact Dawn Drake, PKP public relations, at (608) 342-1020.
