Duescher and Pearson named Wisconsin Collegiate Bowling Conference

PLATTEVILLE - University of Wisconsin-Platteville students, Ryan Duescher and Theresa Pearson, have been named the Wisconsin Collegiate Bowling Conference men's and women's president for the 2006-07 season. Duescher and Pearson are currently president and vice president, respectively, of the UWP Bowling Club.

The Wisconsin Collegiate Bowling Conference consists of 11 men's and 10 women's teams representing most of the UW System schools, including UW-Madison; as well as Winona State, Minn.; Marquette University; Milwaukee School of Engineering; and Carthage College. All of the teams in the conference attend four conference meets hosted by different schools each year. The season runs throughout the fall semester until approximately February each year.

Male and female officer candidates for the Wisconsin Collegiate Bowling Conference's 2006-07 board were nominated by current members of the organization at a recent meeting. Each candidate was given time to present a short campaign speech to explain his/her qualifications for the job. A representative from each team voted for one of the candidates and the person receiving the most votes was offered the position. As co-presidents, Duescher and Pearson will be in charge of organizing the conference meets and keeping everyone informed. They will also hold and run meetings at the beginning and end of the season to make any needed changes to the conference bylaws. As the entire conference is going to be restructured this upcoming year, Duescher and Pearson have a lot of work to help implement the new system. "I didn't start bowling competitively until I was 16," relays Duescher, "but I bowled about 20 games per week once I started working at the Hooterbowl in my hometown of Hustler. I wanted to get involved with bowling in college, so I joined the bowling club on campus my first semester at UWP." Duescher acted as publicist and webmaster of the bowling club his freshman and sophomore years, and is currently president of the club on campus. Unlike Duescher, Pearson has been bowling competitively for the past 10 years. "I started in this sport because I like the competition that is required to bowl with a team and be able to perform at the peak of your individual game," says Pearson. "This is a great sport to be in because you can be part of a team and still compete against yourself."

Duescher is a junior industrial engineering student with a management emphasis. He is the son of Dean and Joyce Duescher of Hustler. Pearson, from Rochester, Minn., is a junior majoring in chemistry with an emphasis in criminalistics. She is the daughter of David and Jean Pearson of Rochester, Minn.
