Patricia A. Doyle Women's Center lists April events
PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Patricia A. Doyle Women's Center will be hosting two events in April. On April 5, David Leo will be presenting a seminar recognizing and addressing hate crimes. The presentation will begin at noon in Room 135 Doudna Hall on the UWP campus.
On April 26, Rea Kirk, UWP associate professor, will be speaking about domestic violence and sexual assault. Her presentation will begin at noon in Room 151 Doudna Hall on the UWP campus. Kirk will discuss the dynamics of family violence and support services available on the UWP campus. Her presentation emphasizes the fact that every nine seconds a woman is abused in the United States. Kirk has been teaching in the School of Education for just over nine years and has also worked with the Women's Studies Program Council and the Ethnic Studies Program Council. Kirk commented, "This will not help just in the future, but now. There are students on our campus who are in abusive relationships. There are students on our campus who have been raped. There are students on our campus who were abused as children. It helps to know you are not alone. It helps to know it is not your fault. It helps to know you are a survivor and can help others. It helps to know you deserve a life free of violence and fear." For more information about these events, contact Patricia Foster at (608) 342-1453 or fosterp@uwplatt.edu
