UWP recognizes employees

PLATTEVILLE - On Nov. 30, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville held their 14th annual awards luncheon in honor of non-student employees across the campus. After a formal lunch, Carol Sue Butts, provost and assistant chancellor, and Kathleen Kelley, human resources director, called each employee to the front where they received thanks and a gift for their dedicated service to UWP.

Employees received different gifts depending on how long they have been working on campus: five years of work is marked by a gift certificate; 10 years, a gold pin; 15 years, a pen and pencil set; 20 years, a crystal dish; 25 years, a gold watch; 30 years, a medallion; 35 years, a stadium blanket; and 40 years, a lamp. Addressing the audience, Butts shared a quote by Dr. W. Edwards Deming's: "Think of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London. 140 players. Why is it great? Because every player there supports the other 139." She went on to say, "The university is all of us - we are all in this together. Each one of you plays a very important role in recruiting and retaining students, maintaining excellence and creating a positive work environment. ... Just as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London needs the violins, percussion and French horns to support one another, we need the associate professors, lab managers, technicians and the maintenance staff to support one another. ... We thank you for your dedication and service to UW-Platteville."
