Krogman named UWP Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Services

PLATTEVILLE - Coordinating five vital University of Wisconsin-Platteville departments, John Krogman, Platteville, has been named UWP Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Services.
Having served in the same role on an interim basis since 2002, Krogman will continue to oversee a staff of 80 in UWP's Office of Information Technology, Karrmann Library, Learning Technology Center, Alternative Delivery Systems and Television Services. "I've got a fantastic staff here in Information Services, and that's one of the reasons I'm thrilled to continue on in this position," he said.
Krogman is a 24-year veteran of UW-Platteville. He joined the faculty in the Department of General Engineering in 1981, and served as chair of that department from 1992-2002. He is a UWP alumnus as well, having earned a bachelor's degree in mining engineering in 1976. He earned a master's degree from UW-Madison in 1984. "I'm delighted that John Krogman has been chosen as Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Services," said UWP Provost Carol Sue Butts. "He has been on our campus for many years, and he has been one of our outstanding faculty members. He has served literally hundreds of university-wide and department-wide committees. He's an excellent teacher, an excellent leader and has outstanding interpersonal skills."
Since beginning as an interim assistant vice chancellor in 2002, Krogman has overseen many UWP information technology improvements. Information Services personnel have implemented an online course management and registration system; activated a wireless computer network; inventoried the entire Karrmann Library collection; developed electronic search capabilities at the library; and created high-tech classrooms and learning spaces throughout campus, including the newly-renovated Ullrich Hall and Pioneer Farm's Agriculture Technology Center.
Information Service support will be integral as UW-Platteville undergoes several infrastructure growth and improvement projects. Krogman looks to outfit all UWP classrooms with high-tech learning technology within three-five years. Other developments on the horizon include a possible Karrmann Library modernization project in the next few years, continued growth among UWP Distance Education programs (Krogman would like to see 30-40 percent growth in the next three-five years), greater utilization of course management systems, construction of a new space for computer network servers and the development of high-tech classrooms and laboratories in new and renovated learning spaces, including the new engineering building planned on the south side of campus.
