Accomplishments of distance students honored
PLATTEVILLE - University of Wisconsin-Platteville distance-learning students were honored recently for their accomplishments over the 2004-2005 academic year.
Renee Weeks, Osage, Minn., received the Distance Learning Center's annual Outstanding Student Award, which recognizes exemplary academic performance by a business administration student in the distance learning program. The recipient of the award is chosen based on grade point average, as well as professional and community involvement. Weeks earned her degree in May 2005. She is currently a child support officer for a Minnesota county social service agency.
Sandy Wallner was the recipient of the Harry Mitchell Portfolio Award, which recognizes outstanding preparation of a life-experience portfolio by a business administration student studying at a distance. By developing an exemplary portfolio based on her past work experience, Wallner was able to earn credit toward her undergraduate degree.
Online criminal justice graduate Dan Chlebos was awarded the 2005 Lifetime Pioneer Award by the UWP Alumni Association. The award recognizes graduating seniors who have excelled in academic excellence, personal and professional achievements, leadership, and community involvement. While a distance student, Chlebos was an active member of the Distance Learning Center's virtual Student Advisory Board. He is currently employed as an auditor/ investigator with the vehicle logistics group at Daimler Chrysler's corporate headquarters in Michigan.
Recent online engineering graduate Wayne Danzik of Maryland was nominated for the Lifetime Pioneer Award. Danzik also served on the virtual Student Advisory Board and is a civilian employee of the United States Coast Guard.
