Pioneer Action Week encourages community service
PLATTEVILLE - From April 11-15, students are encouraged to make a difference in the world around them by participating in community service activities. This year, Pioneer Action Week is focused on understanding and fighting poverty across the globe.
Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to collect "ABC'S" for Pioneer Action Week: apparel, books, children's toys, and supplies. The supplies can be either nonperishable food or hygienic goods, all of which can be turned in at the Pioneer Involvement Center during the entire week. These "ABC'S" will be donated to the needy.
There will be numerous other chances for students to participate during the week. On Monday, April 11, there will be a documentary and discussion at 7:15 p.m. in the Wisconsin Room on the UWP campus that will focus on poverty. On Tuesday, April 12, from 6:30 to 10 p.m., the Battle of the Bands will take place at the Pioneer Crossing, and a collection box will be available for people to donate to help combat poverty. On Wednesday, April 13, students are encouraged to donate towards ABC'S survival kits at the Pioneer Involvement Center. On Thursday, April 14, the students that participated in Pioneer Idol will be traveling to the Heartland Health Care Center to provide entertainment for the elderly. And on Friday, April 15, there will be a clue hunt in the Pioneer Involvement Center from 2 to 3 p.m.
Students that wish to receive more information about the upcoming action week should stop by the Pioneer Involvement Center in the basement of the Pioneer Student Center.
