Rountree Ensemble announces spring concerts

PLATTEVILLE - The Rountree Ensemble, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's in-residence professional chamber music ensemble, is preparing to perform the third and fourth concerts of its 2004-2005 season. The concerts will occur on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 and Wednesday, April 27, 2005. Both concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall in the Center for the Arts.

The February concert features two large-scale chamber master works. One is the Nonets for winds and strings by early nineteenth century composer, Louis Spohr. Czech twentieth century master Bohuslav Martinu composed the second piece.

The April concert features guest artist and internationally acclaimed pianist Gary Hammond. Hammond will join Rountree musicians in Bela Bartok's brilliant "Contrasts" for clarinet, violin and piano as well as the emotionally intense "Sextet" for piano and winds by the twentieth century French master Francis Poulenc. UWP voice faculty member Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk will join Hammond and clarinetist John Marco in Franz Schubert's song "The Shepherd on the Rock." Finally, a new composition written by composer Mark Piszscek will be given its premier performance.

Tickets for the concerts are available through the CFA box office or by calling (608) 342-1298. General admission is $10 and senior citizens and community students are $5. UWP students will be admitted for free.
