John Hassig accepted into the Emerging Leadership Institute
PLATTEVILLE- John Hassig, director of Performing and Visual Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, was recently accepted into the Emerging Leadership Institute. Hassig was accepted based on his completion of an application and essay on his philosophy of arts management, career goals and one reference that fit the criteria of the institute. By being accepted into the ELI, Hassig will be able to find different types of interesting artists and further his knowledge. John Dale Kennedy, a mentor of Hassig's, commented "The performing arts industry is fortunate to have him in the field. While acceptance into this program will be a learning experience for him, it is also acknowledgement of his future promise and ability to be a teacher himself."
Hassig became involved in ELI through the Association of Performing Arts Presenters. APAP is an international association that serves the performing arts industry. Through ELI, a program of the APAP, Hassig will attend a two-day workshop for individuals in the arts who are in the first five years of their career. Hassig commented, "I am honored to be chosen for the program and hope that I can bring back a lot of new ideas to campus to further support the arts in our community."
As director of Performing and Visual Arts, Hassig is responsible for the management and coordination of events in the Center for the Arts and Nohr Gallery. He is also in charge of programming and managing the Performing Arts Series, Nohr Gallery Exhibition Series, Heartland Festival and Acoustic Wednesday/Open Mic program in the Pioneer Student Center.
