Paul McMahon receives award
PLATTEVILLE - University of Wisconsin-Platteville alumnus Paul McMahon, a past director of the Bureau of Financial Management in Wisconsin's Department of Administration, is receiving the UWP College of Liberal Arts and Education's Professional Achievement Award Oct 8.
McMahon's former professor, Tom Waters, now chair of the UWP Department of Social Sciences, nominated him for the award, which was then voted upon by faculty and alumni. While Waters and other alumni felt it was important to have the award go to such a person, McMahon still remains modest about his winning.
A decorated Vietnam veteran, he worked in the Wisconsin Department of Administration for over 20 years, and now has a photography business where he specializes in rural scenes. McMahon, a resident of Madison, graduated from UWP with a degree in political science in 1968. His wife, Nancy (McKenzie) McMahon, is also a 1968 UWP graduate.
The UWP Arts and Letters Hall of Fame and College of LAE Recognition Banquets have been combined this year. The event will be held Friday, Oct. 8 at the Harry and Laura Nohr Gallery in the Ullsvik Center on the UWP campus.
