UWP online instructor to speak at national PMI conference

PLATTEVILLE- Dr. Ginger Levin, adjunct instructor for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's online project management graduate program, will present a paper at the Project Management Institute (PMI)'s annual conference in Anaheim, Calif., October 23-26.

Levin's paper is titled Requirements for Effective Project Communications: Differences and Similarities in Virtual and Traditional Project Environments. The presentation will discuss guidelines for establishing open communication between virtual teammates and will outline techniques that are effective for promoting a cohesive group in the absence of face-to-face communications.

As an online instructor for UWP, Levin has worked hard to make her courses relevant to the real-world situations that her students - who are generally already employed in the field - are likely to face. She has also taught graduate level courses in telecommunications, data base management systems, and management information systems as an assistant professor at the American University in Washington, D.C.

Levin is a member of PMI and is a frequent speaker at project management seminars. She has developed project management courses for several corporations, including BellSouth, IBM, Honeywell, GTE and Arthur Andersen. She has been actively managing a virtual team concerned with milk safety for the Food and Drug Administration since 1992.

While not teaching or creating new programs, Levin enjoys writing. She is the co-author of Achieving Project Management Success With Virtual Teams, published in 2003; Advanced Project Management Office: A Comprehensive Look at Function and Implementation, published in 2002; People Skills for Project Managers, published in 2001; and ESI's PMP Challenge. She is a frequent contributor to ESI International's newsletter, Project Horizons.
