Riley to speak on breast cancer
PLATTEVILLE-On Oct. 5 at noon in Doudna Room 151, Dr. Todd Riley will be giving an informative speech on breast cancer and awareness. The speech will be open to the campus and public and admission is free.
Dr. Riley hopes to inform the listeners on not only the importance of early detection and annual exams, but also about the hard science of cancer. "Everyone knows early detection is key, but I want to explain exactly what cancer is." Dr. Riley said.
During his speech he hopes to touch on the subjects of the many types of breast cancer, the risk factors, how to diagnose the problem, and the different stages of cancer.
The different stages range from zero to stage four. Riley will help clarify the stages. A woman has over a 90 percent chance of survival if detected in the first stage, but less than a 20 percent chance of survival if detected in stage four. One in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Dr. Riley has been in the medical profession since 1993. His specialty is pathology.
