Engineering receives grant for $400,000 software package
PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was recently awarded a grant from software company Haestad Methods for a complete water resources software package.
With the aid of the grant, UWP was able to secure the software package - which has a normal retail value of nearly $400,000 - for only $1,250. The software will be used in a number of civil and environmental engineering classes to design sanitary sewers, storm water management systems, culverts, detention ponds, pumping systems and water distribution systems.
Max Anderson, chair of the civil and environmental engineering department, submitted the grant proposal.
"With this software, civil and environmental engineering students will learn how to design and analyze many municipal water resources infrastructure components and will gain experience with software that is used extensively in industry," Anderson said.
Billed as "the world's leading water resources software company," Haestad Methods is based in Waterbury, Conn.
