Emerson Drive to perform at UWP
PLATTEVILLE - Country music group Emerson Drive will be performing live from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, on the north lawn of the Pioneer Student Center on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus.
All students, staff, and faculty as well as the public are invited to attend the free concert sponsored by Campus Programming and Relations (CPR).
Opening act comedian "Fletch" will kick-off the evening at 6:45 p.m. There will also be an all-campus picnic from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on the west side of the Pioneer Student Center. The cost for the picnic is one meal off a meal plan or $5.
Originally from Alberta, Canada, Emerson Drive has become popular with crowds all over Canada and the United States. Songs like "I Should Be Sleeping," "Fall Into Me," and "It's All About You," are high-voltage fun, while "I See Heaven," "Only God (Could Stop Me Loving You)," and "Light of Day," bring romance and lush harmonies to their sound.
The group has made an impressive showing at the Canadian Country Music Awards, earning the status of Group or Duo of the Year for both 2002 and 2003. They have also received the 2002 Chevy Truck Rising Star Award, and were nominated for a 2003 Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year. This year they have received nine Canadian Country Music Association nominations.
Emerson Drive is also making their mark on the U.S. country music scene. They were named Top New Vocal Duo/Group by the Academy of Country Music in 2003. For their video "Fall Into Me," the group received a nomination for Breakthrough Video of the Year in the 2003 Country Music Television Video Music Awards. Emerson Drive received a Billboard Music Award for New Country Artist of the Year in 2002.
