PLATTEVILLE - The Dean Linden Pioneer Achievement Award for outstanding student leadership at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is presented once a year at the annual Leadership Awards Ceremony to one undergraduate student for their significant work as a student leader. The nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and be currently enrolled for at least 12 credit hours. This year's presentation of the Dean Linden Award, to Anna Mroch, occurred on Friday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Arts.

Mroch has continually shown her dedication to UWP through academic achievement, leadership, and service. She is a member of Gamma Phi Beta, has worked as a student manager for dining services for six years, served on Women's Greek Council (WGC), participated in intramural sports, and is a member of Greeks Advocating Mature Management of Alcohol (GAMMA).

Mroch served as WGC president, vice-president, and secretary. While president she helped the women of UWP accept a new sorority on campus and lead the organization through the rewriting of their constitution.

She was an immediate volunteer to attend the October 2003 Wisconsin System Alcohol Summit with eight other Wisconsin schools to discuss alcohol development and Greek commitment to this situation many campuses face. Mroch volunteered to host and organize another Greek summit this past spring, held at UWP on March 6. Five colleges with a total of over 44 people were in attendance.

Her nominator commented that, "Anna is a role model for those who want to make a difference on campus. She is one of those students who sees need and takes action."

Mroch is from East Troy, and the daughter of David and Leslie Mroch. She is majoring in criminal justice and psychology with an emphasis in sociology. After graduation, Mroch plans to work for a year and then go to graduate school to pursue a Ph.D. in sociology and become a researcher or professor. She is honored to be the 2004 Dean Linden Award recipient.
