Faculty and staff named Wisconsin Idea Fellows<
PLATTEVILLE - Five University of Wisconsin-Platteville faculty and staff have been named 2004-05 Wisconsin Idea Fellows. The recipients are:
- Sue Curtis, Community University Partnership Program.
- Barbara Daus, special assistant to the chancellor and executive director of international programs.
- Louis Nzegwu, associate professor of business, and executive director of the UWP International Resource Center.
- Robert Schatz, Outreach Program for Corporate Relations, and project director for the Rural Business Development Center.
- John Simonson, professor of economics, and director of the Center for Applied Public Policy.
One hundred faculty and staff from across the state received the recognition as Fellow for their public service contributions to their communities and the state and to help further job creation in Wisconsin. The Fellows were nominated by the presidents and chancellors of the UW System's 15 institutions.
"Everyone appreciates being recognized for his or her efforts," said Schatz. "But there is a very deep pool of imaginative, talented and accomplished public servants in the UW System. All these people are just as deserving of such recognition."
The UW System president and board intend on designating 100 new Wisconsin Idea Fellows every year. Fellow is an honorary title in higher education that applies to both men and women.
The public service contributions of the UWP faculty and staff range from economic and market analysis and helping area businesses, to volunteering with the campaign for Southwest Health Center.
"Southwest Wisconsin and this tri-state region are growing stronger through the public service efforts of the many people who are dedicated to making this a great place to live, work, play, and do business," said Daus. "It is my privilege to work with these people."
