Business runs in the family for Becky Fishnick
PLATEVILLE- Becky Fishnick spent her younger years helping out with her parents' businesses in Lancaster. After helping out at Classic Cuts with her mom, Barb, and at Lancaster Auto Body with her dad, Vince, Fishnick thought she wanted to do anything but business. After her high school graduation she attended Southwest Wisconsin Technical College for nursing.
It didn't take long to realize that nursing wasn't for her, but that business was where her heart was. She then transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to major in business.
"I really like the personal attention I received from my professors," Fishnick said. "We had a lot of discussions in many of my classes that helped me to understand things better."
While attending UWP, Fishnick has been busy with her classes and the many organizations she is involved in. These organizations include the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the Pioneer Investment Club, Business Department peer advisor and high school mentor.
Fishnick also received the Outstanding Student Employee Award in the spring of 2003 for her work as the outreach coordinator for the International Business Resource Center (IBRC). At the IBRC, she coordinated an international study tour for students to China, as well as educational business conferences. She also assisted in grant writing and creating informational brochures and newsletters.
As part of her major, Fishnick completed an internship during the summer of 2003, where she worked as the communications intern at Roundy's Inc. in Pewaukee. There, Fishnick coordinated the move communication of three facilities into one new corporate headquarters located in downtown Milwaukee. She also developed intranet with the information systems department and researched and created an effective recruiting strategy for upper management evaluation and implementation.
After graduation, Fishnick intends to use her business administration major with an emphasis in marketing and public relations minor, to eventually become the director of marketing/public relations for a large company.
