Sigma Phi Epsilon receives award

PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has 13 recognized Greek fraternities and sororities. At the annual Leadership Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Arts, Sigma Phi Epsilon received the UWP Alumni Association Oak Leaf Award for Outstanding Greek Organization. All recognized Greek organizations social or social/professional in good standing with the university are eligible for this award. The 2004 nominees were Kappa Alpha Sigma, nominated by President Melissa Boulden, and Sigma Phi Epsilon, nominated by President Ken McHone.

Sigma Phi Epsilon has continually strived to be different than other fraternities, breaking the mold with their unique activities, intense involvement, and academic dedication. They were the first fraternity to set up an educational foundation, the first to offer regional leadership academies (The Carlson Leadership Academy), the first to open chapters in all 50 states, and the first to eliminate pledging through The Balanced Man Program. With a chapter of approximately 50 members, Sigma Phi Epsilon provides balanced men who are leaders, athletes, scholars, and gentlemen. They were recently accredited as a residential learning community and are one of 31 chapters of over 240 accredited chapters to receive this honor.
