Price receives academic advising award

PLATTEVILLE - Susan Price, a professor of animal science in the College of Business, Industry, Life Science, and Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, has been selected as one of 12 nationwide recipients of the National Academic Advising Association Outstanding Advising Certificate of Merit for Faculty Academic Advising.

This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students or outstanding academic advising administration. The Faculty Academic Advising category includes those individuals whose primary responsibility is teaching and who spend a portion of their time providing academic advising services to students.

Price first attended UWP to study for her pre-veterinary medicine degree. She received her doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Purdue University. She also received a master of science degree in ruminant nutrition from UW-Madison. Price joined the faculty at UWP in 1988.

"When you talk to Sue Price, you quickly find out how passionate she is about teaching and advising," said Duane Ford, the dean of the college of BILSA. "That passion translates into outstanding work in these areas. She is most deserving of this award."

For the past 21 years, the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), in cooperation with ACT, Inc., has honored individuals and institutions that are making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising.

NACADA's goal is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students. It has over 7,200 members who consist of faculty, professional advisors, administrators, counselors and others in academic and student affairs. Their members are concerned with the intellectual, personal, and vocational needs of students.

Ford said that, "One of the hallmarks of an education at UW-Platteville is the level of engagement between students and their faculty and staff mentors. Sue is one of those many faculty and staff members here who have made this the case."

Price will be honored and presented with this award in Cincinnati, Ohio, during the annual NACADA national conference in October.
