Daus and Nevins honored as outstanding advisors
PLATTEVILLE - Two UWP staff members who serve as advisors to University of Wisconsin-Platteville student organizations were recognized on Friday, April 30, as the 2004 Outstanding Advisors to a student organization. Faculty, academic staff, or community members recognized as functioning in a primary advisory role of a recognized student organization were eligible.
The 2004 nominees were Barb Daus, Student Ambassadors; Misty Kratt and Ben Markl, Residence Hall Council (RHC); Dr. Mark Meyers, American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE); David Nevins, Student Senate; and Clint Wernimont, Tau Kappa Epsilon.
Daus is the special assistant to the chancellor and executive director of International Programs at UWP. She has been the advisor to the Student Ambassador Corps for approximately 10 years. Two of the organization's main projects are organizing the Homecoming Parade and organizing the free tuition raffle to raise scholarship monies. Since the beginning of the tuition raffle, the organization has awarded over $50,000. Commented her nominators, "Barb has the ability to laugh, lead with ease, and teach without one knowing they are learning. She is a friend, mentor, and trusted colleague."
Nevins is the leadership development coordinator for the Pioneer Involvement Center of the Pioneer Student Center. He is the advisor to Student Senate where he is a model staff member who gives senators a path to follow and encourages them to follow that path. Commented student senate, "Dave is a friend, ally, fun, loving, caring, intelligent, and proud individual who has good relationships with students and empowers them to become better." Added Nevins, "I'm an all around good guy who does what is necessary to challenge and support students at UWP."
