Shapiras present Romantic Cello Concert

PLATTEVILLE- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is proud to showcase the talents of professor Benjamin Shapira and Shulamith Shapira in the third Romantic Cello Concert. The concert will take place at the Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall located in the Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. on April 4.

The program is the Complete Mendelssohn Works for Cello and Piano. Benjamin commented saying, "The Complete Mendelssohn Works are rarely done as a whole. This is a very exciting program. Mendelssohn writing for strings in general and cello in particular are brilliant, sunny, and warm, featuring the cello's natural warmth and expressiveness."

Shapira has been the winner of numerous competitions and awards including the Artists International Competition and Israeli Music Competition

All proceeds generated from the concert will be contributed to the Orchestra Scholarship Fund.

"The Orchestra Scholarship Fund supports and creates a stronger and healthier orchestra, which allows the orchestra to better serve the communities musical interests and needs," added Shapira.

Tickets are available at the university box office or by calling (608) 342-1298. Ticket prices are as follows: general admission $14, UWP faculty and staff $7, UWP students and children under the age of 18 are free.
