Project Management in accreditation process
PLATTEVILLE - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's master of science in project management program is in the process of being accredited by the worlds leading non-profit project management professional association, the Project Management Institute (PMI).
The process of being accredited by this organization is lengthy and rigorous. It requires a self-study of the program, faculty, support structure, curriculum, and assessment. The study is then submitted to PMI where it is reviewed for key content items.
PMI will then send a survey team to UWP for a site visit. Only after these things are completed will the PMI accreditation body consider the program for accredited status. According to PMI's website (http://www.pmi.org), this process takes anywhere from one to three years.
"So far, this is a rare honor," said Bill Haskins, coordinator for the master of science project management program. "If we are successful, UWP will be only the third program in the world to be accredited by PMI."
The other two programs are located at Western Carolina University, and the University of Quebec.
