Teacher Quality Initiative grant awarded
PLATTEVILLE- UW-Platteville's School of Education received a grant from the UW-System to support the Teaching Quality Initiative and integration into PI-34 teaching standards.
"The impact in the long run, of the Teacher Quality Initiative, will be producing better prepared teachers and we will know more accurately what our students can do," said Alison Bunte, UWP School of Education director.
According to the grant proposal, "The purpose of the planning grant is to allow broad-based collaboration between the UW-Platteville School of Education and various partners from within the university and from outside the university." The collaboration will be planning for the implementation of PI-34 and activities related to the initial preparation and the on-going development of teachers.
PI-34 is an initiative that changes the requirements and standards for teaching licensure in August 2004.
"The purpose is to allow the UW and school districts to collaborate on how to implement PI-34," said Bunte.
The grant awarded was in the amount of $24,990. The proposal calls for the formation of a variety of team groups to implement the planning. These groups are as follows: Teacher Preparation, The IHE Role in PI-34, Data Collection/Management, Early Adolescent Team, Early/Middle Childhood Team and Cross Categorical Team.
Teams will consist of on-campus participants and participants invited from organizations such as: Continuing Education, local schools, UW-Richland, Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, Southwest Technical College, Department of Public Instruction(DPI) and Wisconsin Education Association Council(WEAC) and Cooperative Education Service Agency(CESA).
"This is an opportunity to revamp programs and come up with more exciting updated dynamic sorts of opportunities and curriculum," concluded Bunte.
