Symphonic Wind Ensemble members to perform
PLATTEVILLE- Sixteen members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Symphonic Wind Ensemble have been chosen to participate in a two- day event for the National Band Association WI-Chapter College All-Star Band. These students, along with those from 14 other Wisconsin universities, will be joining their music talents to perform in a concert on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. in Wisconsin Rapids at the Hotel Mead.
The band members will be playing some very challenging music including, "Children of the Regiment" written by Julius Fucik, which will be conducted by UWP's own Dr. Barry Ellis, one of four guest conductors.
Ellis commented on this experience for the students saying, "Them being able to perform with others is a great opportunity for them to play with their peers from other schools, and under the direction of other conductors."
Representing UWP's music program will be euphonium players, Paul Miller and Nick McDermott; French horn players, Katie Dunn, Koreena Wood, and Brittny Kempfer; and flutists, Jen Tarp and Amelia Busch. Also representing UWP are Eric Olson and Luke Tredinnick who play the trombone; clarinetists, Karl Busch and Ashley McDermott; bassoon player, Rebecca Gerard; percussion player, Kris Klassy; trumpet player, Adam Scheele; and tuba players, Mark Davidson and Joe Kempen.
Kempen reflected on the experience saying, " It is a positive challenge to rehearse and perform such great music on a short time scale, and exciting to do it with musicians from other schools. It is a privilege to be part of this ensemble and it'll be fun."
This is the second year that UWP musicians have represented the university in the All-Star Band.
