PLATTEVILLE - Five University of Wisconsin-Platteville students have been awarded the Outstanding Student Employee Award this semester.
The recipients of the award are Sean Sieg for his work as lead web developer, Amy White for her work as catering student manager, Karen Gajewski for her work as information student manager, Jennie Hartzheim for her work as campus programming and relations event manager, and Jacqueline Ozomma for her work as research consultant for IBRC.
The Outstanding Student Employee Award is given out based on a student's work ethic, involvement in and around campus, as well as involvement in the outside community.
This award is designed to recognize student employees on campus, and to show that they are appreciated for all the work that they do. Laura Soldner, the student employee coordinator for the university, said that student employees play a big part in keeping the campus running. She also said that this award was unique in that UWP is the only university that she knew of that had an award of this type for students.
Students were nominated for this award by their faculty supervisors. Nominations for the award were due on Oct. 28. Twenty applications were submitted for this award and on Nov. 12 a committee of six people went through the nominations and decided on the final winners.
"It was pretty easy this year, everyone agreed on the same people for the most part," said Soldner.
On Dec. 4, the winners were invited to a luncheon at the Platteville East/West Room in the Pioneer Student Center where they received an award of $100 funded by the UWP Foundation.
