Hill honored by Jaycees

PLATTEVILLE-Almost a year ago, Russell Hill came back to work as production manager for Television Services at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville after graduating from the communication technologies program in 1995. Since then, Hill has had a great impact on the university and the community by being a member of the Platteville Jaycees. He was recently recognized for his work with the organization and received the chapter's "Rookie of the Year Award."

When Hill first moved away from Platteville he went to Bluefield, W.Va. His boss there strongly encouraged he get involved in some sort of community organization. After much convincing he finally decided to join the Jaycees in the area.

Hill was also a member in Hattiesburg, Miss., before moving back to Platteville and getting involved.

"The Platteville Jaycees do so many different things throughout the year," Hill said. "It's such a great organization to be involved with."

This year Hill was able to work on several projects through the Jaycees including the Easter egg hunt, Dairy Days, as well as the annual haunted house. He also attended a camping trip with other Jaycees and their families.

"Being involved with the Jaycees makes me feel like I'm making a difference," Hill said. "It's important for people to get involved in their community, especially college students. Even if you may not be there for a long time it's still important to get involved. Joining the Jaycees has been one of the best things I've ever done."
