Lange is awarded Telly for UWP commercial
PLATTEVILLE-"The University of Wisconsin-Platteville, what college should be!" This quote is part of a commercial produced edited and shot by Mike Lange, a UWP communications technologies management senior from Green Bay. The commercial was produced to recruit students and is aired over the radio and television. The commercial features high tech classrooms, individual attention, student activities and students having fun.
The commercial also earned Lange a Telly Award. The Telly Awards were founded in 1980, to give recognition to outstanding non-network and cable TV commercials and video productions. The Telly is one of the most highly respected national competitions and has become one of the most sought-after awards in the TV, commercial and video industry. This year, more than 10,000 entries were sent in. This is a professional competition and judges rate each entry on a 10-point scale, so entries do not compete against each other. Rather, they compete against a high standard of excellence. Some of last year's winners include: Nabisco, Coca-Cola, Chevrolet, Microsoft, AT&T, A&E, Reebok, Red Cross and Visa.
This is the fifth bronze Telly Award UWP's Television Services has won, though the first in commercial category, which is considered more challenging than the program categories.
"Winning the Telly means more than just a little recognition for television services," says Colleen Garrity, director of television services. "It shows future employers that our students are doing national caliber work."
Lange has worked for television services for four years. He has been very active with the Christmas Telethon and other programming for TV-5. He recently was awarded an outstanding student worker award .
"Mike worked very hard on this project, it is nice to see his efforts rewarded in this manner, " says Garrity.
"I am grateful for the experience I have gained by working for television services for the past four years," says Lange. "This and the many other projects I have done have prepared me for my future career as a video editor."
