Bazala calculates success at UWP
PLATTEVILLE - Balancing athletics, scholastics and a healthy social life looks easy after talking to UW-Platteville senior Jenny Bazala. Originally from Verona, Bazala will be graduating this May with a degree in math education.
Following high school, Bazala decided to attend college at UWP.
"I came to UWP because I knew I would get a good education here," Bazala said. "Also, it was away from home but not too far. I am glad that I decided to come to Platteville."
Since arriving at UWP, Bazala has been involved with several extra-curricular activities. For four years, she dedicated herself to the UWP women's volleyball team. When she was not training, practicing or playing volleyball, Bazala worked for five semesters as a tutor at student support services. In her remaining free time, she has coached volleyball for five years, coached club volleyball for the past two years and worked with the UWP volleyball camp for the last four summers.
While attending UWP, Bazala has also received several awards and honors of recognition for her hard work and dedication. She has been named three times to the Chancellor's list and five times to the Dean's list. Bazala was recognized on the Gabe Miller Academic Honor Roll all four years that she played on the volleyball team and was an award recipient for National Student-Athlete Day during her sophomore year. Bazala has also received scholarships while attending UWP.
Bazala said the one thing that helped her succeed in college was maintaining a balance of scholarly and social activities. Along with working hard throughout her college career, she has made time for extra curricular activities and personal interests such as participating in and coaching volleyball.
Currently, Bazala is fulfilling an internship at Wauzeka-Steuben schools teaching math to students in grades 7-12. Following graduation, she plans on moving to Illinois to teach high school math and continue coaching volleyball.
Bazala is the youngest of three children. Her sister lives in Mount Horeb and her brother lives in Washington, D.C. In her spare time, Bazala enjoys playing volleyball and spending time with family and friends.
