2003 Pioneer Farm Forum
PLATTEVILLE - The 2003 Pioneer Farm Forum was held on Wednesday, Feb. 5 in the Doudna Hall Little Theater on the UW-Platteville campus. The forum, which was hosted by the Ag Student Council, Josh Costello, president of Ag Student Council, called the meeting to order at 7:00, and introduced Dr. Tom Hunt, director of Pioneer Farm.
Hunt addressed the group of approximately 40 students, 10 faculty and staff, and State Rep. Gabe Loeffelholz. Hunt used a power point presentation to explain the Wisconsin Agricultural Stewardship Initiative (WASI). He also discussed the mission of Pioneer Farm, the new construction planned for the farm, the plans for increasing agriculture literacy in the state, how runoff data is being collected and Pioneer Farm's mini-campaign. Students followed with questions about the new construction and about how Pioneer Farm will get information out to farmers.
Duane Ford, the dean of the College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture (BILSA), presented his vision for the future of Pioneer Farm. He described many new and innovative ideas for Pioneer Farm's research processing, and the opportunities that the farm will create for students.
