2003 Heartland Festival to feature 8 separate events
PLATTEVILLE - UW-Platteville will kick off the third annual Heartland Festival with the Ken Lonnquist Concert sponsored by the office of Continuing Education on May 21. The 2003 Heartland Festival will continue through much of the summer providing numerous concerts, plays and celebrations for the arts.
The next event following the Ken Lonnquist Concert will take place May 27. The night will begin with the Gala Opening Reception at 5 p.m. in the Harry and Laura Nohr Art Gallery with a musical review featuring "Dieter Bierbrauer & Friends" at 8 p.m. in the Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall afterwards. The Gala Opening Reception will be featuring a mixed media of works by artists in the tri-states region that will be displayed throughout the Heartland Festival until July 13.
"Coro Nuovo" will be the next festival event, taking place June 5 at 8 p.m. in the Brodbeck Concert Hall. This choral performance will feature all-star alumni of UWP, along with all-star students from both UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater.
The first play featured during the Heartland Festival will be "The Foreigner" premiering June 13 at 8 p.m. in the Center for the Arts (CFA) Theatre with eight performances in all.
The next event will be the children's theatre show which will be performing "School House Rock Live Junior" June 27-29 at 7:30 p.m. in the CFA.
The final performance will feature the musical "Kiss Me Kate" opening July 3 at 8 p.m. in the Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall and running through the end of the Heartland Festival on July 13.
A "Celebration of the Arts" will take place July 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Ullsvik Center South Patio.
Ticket prices for the 2003 Heartland Festival have not yet been determined. Detailed releases will be sent out closer to performance dates with more information available at http://www.uwplatt.edu/arts/heartland.
