The UW-Platteville Pioneer Summer Music Camp has a long tradition of excellence in music instruction. The camp offers exceptional opportunities to learn more about music. Students will participate in a performing ensemble (bands or choir), master classes, sectionals, a mass camp choir and a basic theory class. Students who are able to pass a basic theory test will have the opportunity to choose other class options (conducting, chamber music, drum circle, instrument care and repair and improvisation). In addition to performance, the camp offers recreational activities and optional private lessons. Ensembles (seating based on audition)

Optional 30-minute lessons with camp faculty are available for $17 per half hour, paid to teacher at registration.

Staff

The choral and instrumental staff are comprised of UWP faculty and experienced teachers who are chosen for their expertise in their field. Students will gain knowledge to improve their tone, technique and musicianship.

Housing

Resident campers will be housed on campus in the residence halls throughout the week. Students may request a roommate on the application form. If no request is made, students will be assigned a roommate of the same grade level. Hall assignments are made with grade level consideration. Rooms are furnished with a small refrigerator. Bed linens and towels are also furnished. A staff/counselor will reside on each hall. They will supervise the students while they are on campus.

Application Procedure

If you are entering grades 7-12, or will be a graduating senior this fall, you may apply for band. You must be entering the 9th grade or above to apply for choir. You must have signatures from a music teacher and parent/guardian to be considered. Be sure to complete both sides of the application. You may also register online at www.uwplatt.edu/music.

Registration and Placement Auditions/Theory Test

Registration is Sunday, June 22, in Doudna Hall from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Your chair placement/ vocal assignments and theory placement test will also take place during this time. Residents will receive dorm assignments beginning at noon. The closing concert is on Saturday, June 28, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall.

Scholarships for All-State Participants

Students earning placement in this year’s All-State Honor’s Band or Choir are eligible for a $75 tuition reduction. To apply, forward proof of participation (program) with your name hilighted. Reduction is subject to approval.

Fees and Deadlines

Applications will be accepted through June 6, 2008. The cost of the camp is $360 for residents and $180 for commuters. Checks should be made payable to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Cancellations must be made by June 6, 2008 to receive a refund. Upon acceptance to the camp, students will receive additional information and a health form that must be completed and returned to the camp director. For additional information contact:
