Asia Club is the student group serving the interests of Asian American students at UWP. Asia Club was founded by Lettie Tran and Dee Komany during the 1992/1993 academic year. These two students wanted their own organization. The purpose of the Asia club is to unite the Asian students on campus, to represent different Asian cultures, to increase student, faculty, staff, and community awareness of Asian culture and to advocate for Asian American students. Some events hosted by Asia Club are Filipino Dance Troupe of Madison, a trip to Asia Expo in Chicago, Taste of Asia, and Asia Arts & Crafts Exhibition. Black Student Union (BSU) is a recognized university organization that was established in 1967. The purpose of the organization is to provide social and academic support to Black students attending UW-Platteville. The organization has also accepted the shared responsibility to help educate the rest of UW-Platteville as well as the Platteville community about issues affecting and influencing the success of Black students at UWP. Through speakers, cultural entertainment, and other cultural sharing events, BSU strives to create a welcoming environment to other Black students and to bring awareness to the rest of the UW-Platteville body. Some annual events hosted by BSU are: Ebony Ball, Soul Food Dinner, and Martin Luther King, JR. Holiday Celebration. Meetings are Mondays at 6pm in 119 Warner.
Inter Tribal Council is the campus organization dedicated to the issues of Native Americans in higher education. The group was started in 1994 and went dormant in 1997 until 2004 when it was revived. The organizations purpose is to united Native American students and others interested to be there for each other as support. They are also devoted to educating others about Native American cultures, specifically the nation’s of our members. Inter Tribal Council is responsible for Novembers Native American Heritage month. InterTribal Council is meeting during the spring semester on Thursdays at 4:00 PM in 119 Warner.
Hmong Club was formed by a few Hmong students in the Fall of 1988 for academic support and socialization. It provided them with a sense of belonging, a forum to discuss ideas and academic concerns, and a place to develop new friendships during their college experience. Through the tremendous effort, dedication, and commitment of numerous successors, the Hmong Student Club became officially recognized as a university organization in the Fall of 1992. In 1997, the Hmong Club won the Oak Leaf award as the best student organization at UWP. The Hmong Club has sponsored many annual events including a state-wide volleyball tournament, Hmong Educational Conference, and Hmong Club Thanksgiving Dinner. SOL began in spring 1995 as an advocacy group for Latino students at UW-Platteville. The purpose of the group is: to educate the UWP community to the higher education needs of Latinos, to share Latino culture and history with the UWP community and to increase the number of Latinos who attend UWP. SOL sponsors several campus programs throughout the academic year, such as movie night, forums, and our most popular, Latino Night. Sofia Carlos-Cuellar and Carl Wesley are SOL's advisors.
