General
- Best Information on the Net for Communications Categories include broadcasting, general communication sites, journalism (including media criticism, media law and reporter resources), marketing and advertising, and speech. Maintained by the O'Keefe Library, St. Ambrose University.
- Center for Media and Public Affairs The CMPA "is a nonpartisan research and educational organization which conducts scientific studies of the news and entertainment media." Site includes press releases for studies, political humor links and archives, and archives of the CMPA publication Media Monitor.
- Communication Arts Network Web site of the world's largest magazine for graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, and multimedia designers.
- Communication Studies Resources Gateway to online communication sites. Categories include digital media, journalism, mass communication, political communication, media studies, and visual communication. Maintained by the Dept. of Communication Studies, University of Iowa.
- Electronic Encyclopedia of Communication Provides information resources for different communication topics, such as media studies, health communication, conflict management, and persuasion theories.
- Federal Communications Commission The FCC is a government agency that is directly responsible to Congress and is charged with regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable.
- Library Resources for Communication Studies This site "includes resource lists, links and pathfinders for librarians, students and researchers in the area of communication studies." The information supports a wide range of topics, including subject guides in advertising, journalism, film studies, speech, media ethics, and more. Maintained by the Education and Behavioral Sciences Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries.

- The Center for Public Integrity: Investigative Journalism in the Public Interest This site, "dedicated to producing original, responsible investigative journalism on issues of public concern," provides extensive information for journalists, scholars, and citizens. Site includes Research Tools (with archives back to 1997), featured projects, and newsletters.
- Columbia Journalism Review Online version of "America's premier media monitor - a watchdog of the press in all its forms." Site also includes past issues and journalism tools.
- Digital Journalist Multimedia magazine for photojournalism.
- JournalismNet "One of the most popular and respected journalism sites on the web," this site includes extensive-and searchable-news and journalism-related links.
- The Journalist's Toolbox Online resources and current news information for reporters and editors. Sponsored by the American Press Institute.
- Online Journalism Review "The USC Annenberg Online Journalism Review is a professional publication about ethics and journalism issues in the Internet news publishing world." Updated weekly.
- University Wire A daily internet news service for college newspapers. Includes story of the day, internet resources to topics concerning newspaper journalism. A gateway to other college and general circulation newspapers.
Television
- Encylopedia of Television More than 1,000 original essays of specific TV programs, people, and characters. Searchable by topic, A-Z.
- FootnoteTV This news site, in a new and user-friendly blog version, offers insightful commentaries and analyses on how current events and issues are presented in popular television. It also includes coverage of recent news topics.
- Multichannel News: The Cable Industry Book-of-Record Provides a weekly summary of hottest cable news.
- Nielsen Media Research National tracker of the public's television and media-viewing habits. Site includes information on television ratings, charts of top programming, and resources for journalists and students.
- Television News Archive Vanderbilt University has been taping and archiving television news since August 5, 1968. Abstracts are searchable and listed by date. "The collection holds more than 30,000 individual network evening news broadcasts and more than 9,000 hours of special news-related programming." Tapes are available for use, with small fee charges
- Television Week Community newspaper that covers the television business. Site includes news, weekly ratings charts, blogs, and free e-newsletters.
- TV Acres: The Web's Ultimate Subject Guide to Television Online subject guide to characters, places, and things on TV shows from 1940s to the present. Includes TV Resources and TV Character Bios.
- WWW Virtual Library's Listing of Broadcasters Collection of links containing lists of national and international TV broadcasters, satellite information, newsgroups and museums. Links are a part of the WWW Virtual Library directory.
Radio
- Audio Net An extensive directory of radio stations broadcasting live over the Internet. Tune into live audio from around the world. WARNING - you'll need free Real Audio software, a sound card, and at least a 14.4 modem.
- FCC- Audio Division Homepage of the AM & FM Radio Broadcasting (aka audio) divison of the Federal Communications Commission. Search for radio stations, federal regulations and registration forms.
- National Public Radio Producer of noncommercial news, talk and entertainment programming. Site includes extensive news stories and program archives.
- Old-Time Radio The history of radio shows from the beginning of radio broadcasting to the 1960's. Site covers entertaining and educational topics, including a Reference Materials section with radio program logs and database search engines.
Photography
- American Museum of Photography A virtual museum of American photography, the site proclaims itself "A Museum Without Walls... For An Art Without Boundaries." Site includes special exhibits and a Research Center section with information on photographic processes and links to photo-history web resources.
- Digital Journalist Multimedia magazine for photojournalism.
- International Center of Photography A museum, a school and a center for photographers and photography. Its mission is to present photography's central place in contemporary culture.
- Museum of Photographic Art One of the few U.S. museums exclusively dedicated to the photographic arts. Site includes an historical timeline, exhibitions, a sample of the collection, film, and education resources.
- New York Institute of Photography Although a site for the photography school, it is also a resource for anyone interested in photography. Home study courses are available. Site includes an online photo magazine and a reference shelf of past articles written on a variety of photography issues.
- Prints and Photographs Reading Room Part of the Library of Congress Prints & Photographs Division and Research Center. This site provides reference information, collection guides, and through the Prints & Photographs Online Catalog, access to over one million digital images of the division's photo collection.
- Yahoo! Directory of Master Photographers Information and links to over 200 master photographers, including images of their works.
- Yahoo! Directory of Photography History Links to sites on the history of photography, including photojournalism, stereographs, daguerrotypes, collections, and more.

- Graphics.com "Features news, resources, and discussion forums for the graphic design and web site creation community. "
- The Media History Project Promotes the study of media history. Categories include early media, print media, electrical media, mass media, and digital media. Hosted by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Minnesota.
- Multimedia: From Wagner to Virtual Reality Online project "will serve as a valuable resource for students, teachers, artists, and critics probing the interactive media arts [...] and provide a means for illuminating an understanding of its roots, significance and potential." Site includes multimedia concepts, innovators, history, and a teacher's guide for multimedia courses.
- Multimedia Authoring Web A resource collection of Internet sites for developing multimedia. Categories include design, education, media sources, and specific media formats. Maintained by the Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction, Maricopa Community Colleges.
- Rhizome.org Non-profit organization that provides "an online platform for the global new media art community." Site includes news and browsable art exhibitions.
Public Relations
- All About Public Relations "Assists PR newcomers, job seekers, as well as seasoned professionals, with a collection of links and articles supporting the best aspects of public relations. " Topics include PR Toolkit, Basics of PR, Ethics, Media Relations, and more.
- Institute for Public Relations The site of the institute, whose goal is to "document the intellectual foundations of public relations, and to make this knowledge available and useful to all practitioners, educators, researchers" includes news and collection of research articles on public relation topics.
- Museum of Public Relations This site provides biographical exhibits of some of the early pioneers of public relations, as well as an article on the origins of the field.
- Pew Research Center for the People and the Press "Independent opinion research group that studies attitudes toward the press, policies and public policy issues. " Site includes survey reports, commentary, news, and datasets.
- PR Education Web portal to public relations education. Includes sections targeted for students, educators, and practitioners.
- PR Watch This site, part of the Center for Media and Democracy, publishes reports on the public relations industry in order to "recognize and combat manipulative and misleading PR practices." Site includes past issues of its quarterly publication, and the "Spin of the Day" section offers information about allegedly misleading public relations practices.
