The MultiSearch feature allows you to search across several different databases in a subject or discipline area AT ONCE!

MultiSearch helps with these typical challenges in library research:

  1. Database selection within your topic area
  2. Multiple database searching

Access MultiSearch through the library's homepage: http://www.uwplatt.edu/library

An example of what MultiSearch can do:

  1. If, for example, your topic is ethanol production, visit the library's homepage.
  2. Click MultiSearch.
  3. Select the subject area of databases. For this topic the default, Science, works fine.

By selecting the group of Science databases you will be searching for the articles in thousands of journals through these databases:

Academic Search Premier Abstracts and full text journal articles in all subject categories
Wilson Databases All databases from H.W. Wilson including Applied Science Full Text
MasterFILE Premier Abstracts and full text to more than 1,800 general interest periodicals
Business Source Premier Indexes and abstracts to business periodicals and newspapers
Institute of Physics JournalsOver 30 journals published by the institute
Emerald Full Text Index and full text of the articles in 180 journals
Knovel Scientific & Engineering Online Reference Collection of scientific and engineering reference books

      4.     Enter search terms, ethanol production, in the dialog box and click GO.

MultiSearch will search simultaneously for articles on your topic within several databases and thousands of journals.

The result list will give a ranking of the article, the author, title, year it was published, the title of the database that retrieved the article, and action. Clicking the action's "Find It!" button will assist in locating the article online, finding a print version of the article, or obtaining a copy of the article through interlibrary loan.
