Location

The reference desk is located on the library's main floor.

Services

The librarian at the Reference Desk will assist you in locating materials and specific information. Such information includes, but is not limited to:

• Online Library Catalog - How to search the library's online catalog for books, journals, audio/visual materials and microfich.
• Read the FAQs about our new Find It! service.
• Already know the citation of an article? Use our CitationFinder to find it in full-text.
• WISCAT - Web access to the combined book catalogs of more than 1000 Wisconsin libraries.
• Locating Reference Material - Materials in the Reference Collection are arranged by call number, with an "R" or "Ref" above the call number designating this collection. The online library catalog indicates:
  • REFERENCE = General Reference Collection
  • REF/DESK-COLL = Reference Desk Collection
  • REF/ATLAS = Atlas Collection in Reference area

Printed Indexes - Printed indexes to journal articles are arranged alphabetically in the Reference area. Some indexes also contain abstracts of articles.

Contact the relevant division librarian for assistance with specific subject areas.

The Wisconsin Collection and the IML have separate reference collections as indicated on the online library catalog.
