In August 1997, the UW System signed a three-year contract with AT&T as its sole provider of long-distance telephone services. The contract, which is part of BadgerNet, has an option for an additional two years. Benefits of the new State Calling Service (SCS) include significant rate decreases to UW System. All UWP offices must abide by the new AT&T contract; no other carriers may be used.

Dialing Instructions. With the new SCS, campus calls will continue to be dialed with the last four digits of the telephone number.

Local telephone calls (Platteville, Dickeyville, Belmont) should be dialed with a "9" + seven-digit telephone number.

Long-distance calls should be dialed by using "8" + area code + number. Phone calls placed using this dialing procedure will go through the AT&T switch and be billed at the low AT&T rate. (Note: The AT&T contract will handle all area codes.)

Extended Community Calling (ECC) calls will also go through the AT&T switch and should be dialed using the following format: "8" + "1" + area code + number. ECC calls will be billed at the lower AT&T rate.

"800" calls should be dialed using the format "9" + "800" + number.

International calls should be dialed using the following format: "8" + "011" + country code + city code (if necessary) + number. (Detailed dialing instructions for international calls can be found in the current PTI Directory.
