Effective August 24 until further notice - USER1 (J-drive) only accessible on campus or via virtual desktop

Following the migration of the USER1 (a.k.a. J-drive) to a new server: 

  • Individual storage allotment on USER1 increases to 4GB.
  • To access USER1 (J-drive) via mobile device or from off-campus, you will need to use a virtual desktop. This is a temporary situation that should be resolved within the coming weeks.
    • SHARED1 will still be accessible via mobile device and from off-campus through the login at or through a virtual desktop.
    • SHARED1 will not be migrated to the new server until Winterim 2016.
  • Mac users will need to map the new drives; see instructions at

If you are unable to access your data on the J-drive, please restart your computer. If issues persist, contact the ITS Help Desk at or 608.342.1400.

If it appears files are missing from your J-drive, it may be that your data is still being migrated. If you have concerns, please contact the ITS Help Desk.

Information Technology Services provides a significant amount of online storage that is used on a daily basis by departments and ad hoc workgroups as a place to store files and other information. Some storage is used to provide files to the entire campus community.

Where to find shared directories

  • Workgroup: \\\Shared1\WGroups
  • Academic and Courses: \\\Acad1\

ITS also provides each student and employee at UW-Platteville with individual storage space on the USER or J: drive.

  • Employee quota: 4GB
  • Student quota: 4GB

Office 365: OneDrive

In addition to network storage, every account holder has access to 1 TB of storage in OneDrive through Office 365.

  • Similar to your J-drive for your personal use
  • Cloud storage accessible wherever you have internet access
  • Ability to share files and collaborate in real time with other UW-Platteville account holders
  • Take care not to include files with personally-identifiable information (i.e. social security numbers, student evalulations, account numbers, etc.)
