University to unveil website home, hub pages
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will unveil its new home web page as well as 11 new landing pages on Friday night, barring unforeseen circumstances. This is part of the process that began in August with a 14-member campus committee overseeing the redesign and the re-navigation of more than 90,000 pages on the UW-Platteville site.
Among the features of the bold new homepage are increased uses of photos and videos, branding messages as well as campus events and updates. The content will be updated constantly, making the UW-Platteville site a must-visit site each day. In addition, each web page with the new design will feature six promotional and five audience landing pages that will be filled with helpful resource links.
Please take some time to acquaint yourself with these new landing pages when they go live Friday:
- Campus Life
- Athletics and Recreation
- About Us
- Future Students
- Current Students
- Faculty and Staff
- Alumni and Friends
- Community Life
In addition to those links, there is a drop-down shortcuts feature that will also be available on each page to take viewers to such popular sites as e-mail, D2L, PASS, library, transportation, transcripts, graduation and more. You will notice that for most of these pages, when you click a link you will be taken to the current website.
The next phase of the project involves migrating those pages over to the new design. Phase one involved testing and subsequent launching of such pilot programs as the phonebook, campus calendar, transportation, TREES Lab, Residence Life, Admission, Foundation and University Information and Communications. Phase two included the home and landing pages, and phase three will include the rest of the university site. In a major shift, content stewards will be trained on the new Drupal content management system to be able to update their own pages. That training is currently underway. (If you are a content steward and have not yet scheduled a time for training, please contact Deb Meyer of Office of Information Technology at email@example.com or 608.342.7245.)
