Spring ahead...to MS365
As announced to campus earlier this week, UW-Platteville will be switching from Zimbra Collaboration Suite to Microsoft 365 for its e-mail and calendaring needs. MS365 also includes SkyDrive (soon to be OneDrive), which will allow easy access to files from anywhere on or off campus, and free MS Office licenses for students.
While the decision to switch to MS365 is the final result of a months-long e-mail/calendaring study, it is really just the beginning of the next stages of the process: planning, preparing, and implementation. Very soon a project team will be convened to plan the detailed timeline and steps, including a communications plan and training. Conversion of more than 14,600 active e-mail accounts will be done by Spring 2015. Every effort will be made to ensure the transition is gradual and strategic and that faculty, staff, and students have the training, documentation, and support they need to be comfortable with these new tools.
Concerned about functionality or workflows? A mechanism will be established for sharing these questions online. For now, please direct your concerns to the ITS Help Desk at firstname.lastname@example.org so we may document and address them in due time.
