PASS project spotlight: New Student Registration
After being accepted to UW-Platteville, one of the most significant milestones for incoming freshmen is registering for their first term classes. Newly-admitted students begin the process by signing up for a registration date using New Student Registration (NSR). This user-friendly system allows students (and parents) to choose a registration date that is convenient for them and also provides students with links to placement test registration and overnight accommodation reservations on campus, if desired. Students who stay on campus for registration may reserve a room themselves and pay via credit card, eliminating the need to handle cash or checks in advance. Since students access NSR through their PASS accounts, they become more acquainted with PASS before the come to campus.
On the campus side, NSR’s automation frees staff from manually assigning registration dates and room reservations. NSR system administrators are able to gather information needed to prepare for each registration day in the summer (names, addresses, major, placement test scores, PIN numbers, etc.). In addition, they can provide academic departments with reports about students coming into their programs, which helps departments prepare and plan for class needs.
New Student Registration launched in Spring 2013, replacing an online system that was severely outdated and not working very well. PASS developers recently completed updates to NSR that further streamline the process, making it an even more efficient and user-friendly tool for incoming students.
