ARRIVAL - Sunday, august 24, 2014
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) has arranged for bus transportation from Chicago's O'Hare Airport to Platteville to transport new international students to campus for the Fall 2014 semester. New students who would like to take advantage of this service are requested to arrive in the U.S., at Chicago's O'Hare airport by 4:00 p.m. (16:00) on Sunday, August 24, 2014. The bus will stop only at the International Terminal (#5) at O'Hare. UW-Platteville staff will meet you in the arrival hall (lower level just outside of baggage claim) of the International Terminal (#5) near the McDonald’s around 5:30 p.m. (17:30); we will be carrying a “Welcome to UW-Platteville” sign.
Students who will be utilizing UW-Platteville's bus from Chicago to Platteville are required to e-mail their complete flight itinerary to the UW-Platteville ISSS office (email@example.com) by August 1.
Students who will not be taking the bus with us from O’Hare on August 24 but who will be living on campus in the residence halls must make arrangements to arrive on campus on August 24. These students will be able to move in to the residence halls from 6-7 p.m. (18:00-19:00) or at 9 p.m. (21:00) on August 24. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you need to move in to your residence hall from 6-7 p.m.
Students who are not in need of transportation from Chicago O'Hare to Platteville who will be living off campus should make personal arrangements to arrive in Platteville by Sunday, August 24, at 9 p.m. (21:00).
You may arrive in the United States up to 30 days before the start date on your I-20. For most of you, the start date on your I-20 is August 24, 2014. See below for instructions in planning your arrival:
- Book a flight to Chicago O’Hare Airport (ORD) in Illinois, the United States of America. Please check the ARRIVAL & ORIENTATION ENROLLMENT FORM for information on the date/time you should arrive to meet the UW-Platteville staff to take the bus back to Platteville.
- Make sure to have at least three hours in between arrival and bus departure to Platteville.
- Have a working cell phone / U.S. coins or cash / calling card available if you need to make a call upon arrival in the U.S.
Fall 2014 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION - AUGUST 25-29, 2014
All new international students are required to attend International Student Orientation. Orientation is a fun, informative program designed to prepare you for success during your time at UW-Platteville. At International Student Orientation, you will have the opportunity to obtain your Student ID card, get your UW-Platteville e-mail address and password, sign up for your meal plan, meet with your academic advisor, buy your textbooks, learn about the various aspects of the University of Platteville campus and resources, adjust to the U.S. culture and language, meet current students, and much more.
The total non-refundable deposit for arrival/orientation, including lodging and food costs, is $260. This deposit will be charged to your UW-Platteville student account.
If you are living in the Residence Halls, an International Student Orientation leader will meet you outside the main entrance of your residence hall on the first day of orientation (Monday, August 25) at 8:45 a.m. If you will be living off campus, you will need to meet us for the first day of International Student Orientation on Monday, August 25, at 9 a.m. Please see the orientation schedule linked to this webpage for the room location of the first day of International Student Orientation.
