The Gilman Scholarship has allowed me to partake on a life adventure most only dream of. This experience has given me the chance to make life long friends, grow as a young man, and find my true identity in this thing called life. Given the opportunity I would tell everyone who is interested to look into study abroad as it will truly help you discover yourself whether you're ready or not, as we sometimes find ourselves too close to something to see its true value.

"The Gilman Scholarship allowed me to participate in the Spanish Language immersion in Guadalajara, Mexico in the Spring of 2009. As anyone who has learned a language can tell you, to be successful you must be fully integrated into the society. In addition to that, being abroad shatters any preconceived notions you have about people from other countries and allows you to see how much we are all alike. Without the help of the money from the Gilman scholarship my dream of learning Spanish may have never came true."

"My study abroad experience has been great because it has really opened up my eyes to the rest of the world. I have made friends from all over the globe and been fortunate enough to get a small taste of their cultures. I have had a great educational experience too! I would not have had the money available for this experience if the Gilman foundation would not have awarded me this scholarship."
