Resident Assistant (RA) 2015-2016
Bryn Bowden is the RA for the Global Exploration Living Learning Community, and was a member of the Global LLC the previous year. She became a part of the close knit community who took care of each other, had a lot of fun together, experienced different cultures, and tried a variety of foods from around the world. She is a sophomore double majoring in Women and Gender Studies and Political Science.
Dr. Travis Nelson is a professor of political science specializing in international relations. His research explores natural disasters and disaster aid, the politics of international sport, and justifications for conflict and war. His classes cover many areas of international relations, including international security, global economy, and human rights. He will teach the common course for the Global Exploration LLC, Political Science 2360: International Relations.
Program Coordinator 2015-2016
Alyssa Shaff has been with UW-Platteville Education Abroad since 2015. As the Education Abroad Program Coordinator, Alyssa advises students on the education abroad process, coordinates short-term faculty-led study abroad programs, and oversees the Global Exploration Living Learning Community. She has a passion for learning about new cultures and languages, and has lived in Madrid, Spain.
dobson Resident Director (RD)
Rebecca Groves is the Resident Hall Director for Dobson. She has her Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UWW) in Psychology and Women's Studies. She deeply enjoys working with college students and found this passion as an undergraduate Resident Assistant at UWW and that prompted her to seek her Master's degree from Western Illinois University in Collge Student Personnel. She is passionate about working with people with disabilities, military personnel, gender issues, and other groups. In her free time she likes to read, listen to music, play trivia, board games, and hang out with friends and family.
Assistant Director of Residence Life
Robin Gore is the Assistant Director of Residence Life at UW-Platteville. She works with and supervise 5 of 13 residence halls: Dobson, Cooper, McGregor, Morrowand Rountree. She also has responsibility for departmental initiatives including Resident Assistant and Senior Assistant staff recruitment, selection training and personnel paperwork, departmental issues and diversity education, and startup and oversight of living and learning communities. She is in her 15th year working professionally with the Department of Residence Life. Robin oversee the residency portion regarding Living Learning Communities and work closely with the LLC's program coordinators to ensure a unique experience for all our LLC participants. She obtained her undergraduate degree from UW-Platteville in Biology and her graduate degree from UW-La Crosse in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education. On a personal note, she and her husband have four children (ages 19, 17, 11, & 9), a hobby farm and are starting a vineyard. They stay plenty busy at home in their "free time" and spend a lot of time running to their children's events! Her office is located on the first floor of Royce Hall, feel free to stop in and say “hi!”
DIRECTOR OF RETENTION INITIATIVES AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS
Karen McLeer, Ph.D., is the Director of Retention Initiatives and Academic Success, which means that she is always thinking about making the student experience as positive as possible. She coordinates the “learning” portion of the LLC’s, working closely with faculty advisors to make strong connections between the classroom experience and the living community. Prior to her work here at UW-Platteville, she was a professor of English and Associate Dean at UW-Richland, so attention to the individual student experience has always been important to her work.
