Mission

The mission of OIEA is to engage faculty, staff, and students at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in an ongoing process of systematic and institution-wide evaluation and assessment practices.  The Office collects, analyzes, and reports on information that supports data-driven decisions by the administration.  Staff monitors and reports changes to measurable outcomes stated in the university’s 5-year strategic plan.  The Office operation is aligned with the university mission by supporting both academic and non-academic units in assessing student learning for the purpose of improving student performance.

 

Basic values

Basic values established for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville are embraced in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment. These values are as follows:

Primary Functions of the Office

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment (OIEA), a department that reports under the organization of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, supports organized assessment efforts, provides data analysis and research for internal and external use, and assists with the implementation of strategic planning goals.  OIEA serves the university community in the following capacity:

  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing an overall campus assessment plan.
  • Centralize data collection, analysis, and dissemination of information throughout the campus.
  • Develop and monitor strategic performance indicators and report findings to key decision makers.
  • Coordinate institutional data and establish a repository of evidence for national, regional, and specialized accrediting agencies.
  • Coordinate, administer and analyze surveys, and report findings.
  • Provide departmental-level data to support unit assessment planning and evaluation.
  • Provide information in support for grant writing initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with campus units to ensure the accuracy of data by institutionalizing data definitions that are aligned with best practices; and, by occasionally testing data variables in collaboration with Information Technology Services.
  • Serve as the campus liaison for the dissemination of data reporting to state and federal agencies.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all information developed, used and shared in the office.
