Padlet

Collaboration is a necessary tool in any classroom that wishes to facilitate teamwork and diversity. Teaching and learning atmospheres continue to key into new and innovative ways to achieve collaboration between students as well as with the instructor. Padlet is a online application that promotes collaboration and sharing of ideas with both visual and textual avenues.

The Padlet application provides a clean interface and design where users create pages that resemble a mini bulletin board, referred to as a wall. The walls can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Discussions to begin before class or continued after class
  • Quizzes
  • Skill practice
  • Brainstorming
  • Planning events
  • Bookmarking

While walls can be created without logging in, to be able to share the link and save the wall, it is important to create a free account and log into the app before creating anything.

Beyond the basic function of creating a central space to collaborate, there are several other benefits to the application:

  • Allows instructors to cater to different learning styles.
  • Posts are made in real time, so instructors and students can communicate instantly.
  • Privacy is easy to control; the creator of the wall decides who can see, edit, or add to the contents.
  • Add diversity and fun to the classroom.
  • Ability to sync data with all available devices to potentially access from anywhere.

Padlet is a free tool, with easy to use software and appealing graphics.

Padlet can be used in conjunction with Desire2Learn. The link to the created wall can be added to a discussion thread, a content item, or news item so that others have access. Additionally, the wall can actually be embedded so that it is available right on Desire2Learn.
