My current research is focused on the Mississippi Lead Mine Districts of WI/IL/MO/IA. The Lead Rush of 1827 caused a boom town phenomenon in Northern IL and SW Wisconsin which in some regards rivaled the Gold Rush of 1848-9. I'm currently researching and writing about the early housing of the lead miners in IL and WI with an emphasis on the stone "badger huts" built in the 1820s-40s.
