Ben J. Golden, Lighting Designer, next to normal and Shrek
Ben J. Golden is excited to be in residence at the Heartland Festival this summer. Ben is a professional lighting and sound designer and educator. He holds a BA in Theatrical Production from St. Olaf College and will receive an MFA in Theatre with a Lighting emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison this spring. Most recently, he designed the lighting for The Yellow Boat, An Evening With Poe and Cloud 9 at University Theatre. He has also designed for the Music Theatre of Madison, St. Olaf College, the Northfield Arts Guild, and Deep End Productions. Last summer, Ben served as the Master Electrician for the Des Moines Metropolitan Opera.
Niffer Pflager, Scenic Designer, next to normal
Niffer Pflager’s recent work includes sound design for Godspell at UW-Platteville, technical direction for last year’s Heartland Festival productions Nunsense and Fiddler on the Roof, set design for UW-Madison’s Cloud 9, Cradle Will Rock, Ti Jean and His Brothers and the English language premier of Pedro and the War Cantata. She recently received her MFA in set design from University of Wisconsin Madison and now resides in Platteville.
Craig Alan Schlagel, Costume Designer, next to normal
Craig Alan Schlagel is a veteran of the Heartland Festival. He has worked for the Heartland Festival for five seasons either on stage or off. Some of his most recent costume design credits are Queer Shorts 9 with Stage Q in Madison, WI and Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo with Strollers Theater Co. in Madison, WI. Craig holds a BA in theatre from UW-Platteville.
Jeffrey Strange, Scenic Designer, Shrek
Jeffrey Strange is an Assistant Professor of Theatre and Resident Designer for UW-Platteville where he has created scenic and/or lighting designs for Betrayal, Macbeth, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Secret Garden, God of Carnage, Tartuffe, Death and the Maiden and Guys and Dolls, Ghosts, The Normal Heart, and Godspell. Last summer, Jeffrey created scenic designs for the Heartland Festival’s Nunsense and Fiddler on the Roof. His designs have also been seen at Tennessee State University (The Birthday Party and Ruined -American College Theatre Festival Region IV Finalist), Weathervane Theatre (Hair, Ragtime, Legally Blonde, Music Man), Stagedoor Manor (The Wild Party, Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Sweet Charity, Les Miserables, The Producers), Hilberry Rep (The Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet, The Seagull, Pippin) and the Moscow International Theatre Festival (Lie of the Mind). Previously, he served as Charge Artist for the Berkshire Theatre Festival with Broadway designers Hugh Landwehr and Paul Gallo.
Sarah Strange, Costume Designer, Shrek
Sarah Strange is UW-Platteville theatre program’s Resident Costume Designer. She is a recent graduate of the MFA Costume Design program at University of Wisconsin-Madison and received her Bachelors of Science in Theatre Design and Technology from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. With the Pioneer Players, Sarah has designed the costumes for Godpell, ‘night Mother, The Normal Heart, Ghosts, Tartuffe and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Other costume design credits include Fiddler on the Roof (Heartland Festival 2013), Cloud 9, The Cradle Will Rock, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Bat Boy, You Can’t Take it With You, Twelfth Night, Assassins!, Intimate Apparel, Ruthless!, The Secretaries, Mary’s Wedding, Road to Mecca, Fugitive Songs, Polaroid Stories, and Katatonika (2009 Prague International Fringe Festival).
