Located on the border between Miyazaki and Kagoshima
Prefectures, Kirishima National Park has 23 volcanic cones and 10
crater lakes. Takachiho-no-mine, the volcano below, is a popular
hiking destination. Japanese mythology holds that upon this
mountain Ninigi-no-mikoto descended from heaven to create the islands
of Japan.
