Sendantodoro-no-taki, a 65- meter waterfall is found in one of the most isolated sections of Japan.  In this rugged area, the only means of transportation for centuries was by foot over mountain trails and hanging bridges.  In this area, Gokanosho, live the descendents of the Heike whose ancestors fled here from the Genji after the battle of  Dan-no-ura, near Shimonoseki.  Old samurai armor from the time is still kept by these families.  The area also has many minshuku, a type of lodging with a family, that specialize in providing guests with food gathered from the mountains, including venison and wild boar.
